Today for some unknown reason suddenly my Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse - Model Number EX100 stopped working and very stubbornly denied to work despite my repeated attempts on all obvious and logical steps - resets, battery change and such.

Logitech Cordless Desktop EX100 (920-000879)After trawling through the internet for some time I figured that I am not alone in facing the issue but surely have been hit quite late by it. It appears Logitech was more than happy to replace it at one point.

Anyway, further forum hopping lead me to a post that felt like a very unlikely solution but I gave it a shot and should I say more? It worked indeed. So this post is not only for world but for my future reference.

With thanks to "Andromedia" on logitech forum, I present the solution that resurrected my dead keyboard and mouse.

For Keyboard:

  1. Remove the batteries from the Keyboard.
  2. Type on the keyboard for about 10 to 30 seconds.
  3. Insert the batteries back into Keyboard.
  4. Press Left Alt+Left Ctrl+F12 all at the same time and hold for about a second.
  5. Now PRESS the Connect Button on Receiver. (DO NOT HOLD)
  6. Now PRESS the Connect Button on Keyboard. (DO NOT HOLD)
  7. Finally, Press "Esc" on Keyboard.
For Mouse:
  1. PRESS the Connect Button on Receiver. (DO NOT HOLD)
  2. Now PRESS the Connect Button on Mouse. (DO NOT HOLD)
That should do the trick. At least for me it did. :)

  1. It worked! My EX100 keyboard and mouse suddenly stopped working and I went through all the obvious steps--battery replacement, reset, etc.--with no results. Then I found this answer and tried it, even though it sounded kind of silly. Voila! Functioning keyboard and mouse! Thank you for posting this solution.

  2. I know it does feel a bit silly but for some reason it works. The most rational explanation I could think of was perhaps it is some form of factory reset.

I am glad it helped you.

    Ankit.

    2. worked for me too. It did seem like an odd fix...but those commands are what are used for the "secure" connection...maybe an issue there. but alas its fixed (for now) :) thank you thank you!

    4. Ditto. Saved me 70 bucks as well. I actually went out and had already bought a new Logitech set to replace the set that stopped working when I turned on the PC this morning and that didn't work either. So back to the store to return the new set. Thank you.

  3. Ankit, thank you! For a minute I wondered if you were just messing with people b/c the solution sounds so weird, ha. It worked! My keyboard and mouse work fine now. Thanks!

  4. Ha Ha...I share the feeling...When I looked at the solution...I felt this isn't going to work but before I go ahead and spend 35 quids in a new Keyboard and mouse why not give it a shot and was pleasantly surprised...:)...just spreading the joy...

  6. I tried this solution and it doesn't work for me. I'm using windows 7 and I don't find the keyboard in the device manager. Nor does the computer find it when it searches for a device. It does show the mouse, though, which works fine. Any thoughts?

  7. Hi Author,

    few things to consider:
    1. Was the keyboard working earlier and then stopped working or this is the first use and you are stuck? If first time, it can be hardware issue, I had it myself for the very first time and had to return the keyboard and get another one...currys guys were very helpful....:)

    2. Have you checked after changing the batteries?

Hope one of this will resolve the issue.

    Regards,
    Ankit.

  8. Hello Author,

Just came across the post from logitech, which seems to suggest there may be issues with logitech drivers on windows 7. Now as I don't use windows as my OS let alone windows 7, I will not have much clue on that but it may be worth having a look at this post...

    http://blog.logitech.com/2009/05/29/update-on-logitechs-mouse-and-keyboard-drivers-for-windows-7/

It was posted quite some time back so I hope this would have been a resolved issue. Have you given it a try?

    Regards,

  26. Nettles: I can be wrong but I think the reason it works for Ex100 is because it is perhaps some sort of hard reset. If that is the case it is quite possible that it will not work for other models that may have a different hard reset.

Unfortunately, I have no clue what that hard reset combination would be for your model. Google is our best friend...:)...best of luck.

  30. I just used the disk that came with the set, and that did the job, so all it needed was formatting.

"That little disk is there for a reason, USE IT!!!"
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for the tip KingGold171. I am assuming you use windows as your OS as you were able to use the "disk". Usually Linux users don't bother even opening the CD that accompanies the hardware as the drivers included are for Windows or in some exceptional instances for Mac.

  32. Worked a treat. The key board was destined for recycling but now all is well!

  34. Ihave had this problem occur on 2 different key boards. Updating software / rebooting / new batteries / reconnecting made no difference.
Tried your suggestion several times but no change.
Tried one last time only when typing for 10 - 30 seconds i pressed every key on the keyboard individualy and messaage box appeared, ignored this and followed rest of your instructions and keyboard is now working. Do not know why but thanks for the solution.

Dug out an old wired keyboard and mouse (cobwebs and all) and pc was working fine - checked usb ports all OK - was thinking of giving Logitech apiece of my mind about there 'C**P' products. When I Googled EX100 wireless keyboard problems and found your solution I gave it a go and like every one else it worked. Its printed off now in case I ever need it again - many many thanks.

    1. Hi, If it does not work it can be due to some reason which actually does render the keyboard unusable. Are you using the model same as mine? i.e. EX100. A different model can be another reason.

Sorry I can't be of much help than this. :(

I do have another wireless logitech mouse(M215 model) that I use at home which was already connected. 80. I tried every action listed and no luck at all. I have a EX 100 series keyboard/mouse and I think the main issue is the receiver P/N 831511-2000. Neither my keyboard nor my mouse will work anymore, although I do know they are functioning though.

I cleaned the USB contacts with rubbing alcohol as I've done a great deal of times in the past, but even with the universal serial bus ports being cleaned, nothing seems to be working.

Not sure if this post will ever be answered, but I am hoping this might.

I am afraid the actions of this post as I explained were my last resort so I don't know how I can help. It might be that like you said receiver is gone in which case you may have to go for a new one.

I hope someone might have a better answer.
